| Air conditioning |
Air conditioning is a mechanical process of removing or transferring
heat from a designated indoor room and rejecting the heat outdoors.
A medium such as refrigerant is commonly used as the vehicle to
transport or move the heat from indoors to the outdoors. The main
indoor component of an air conditioning system is commonly referred
to as the "evaporator"/blower section. The outdoor unit is commonly
referred to as the "condenser" section.
|
| Space cooling
vs spot cooling: |
Space cooling: Air conditioning of an entire room or area.
i.e. Office, bedroom.
Spot cooling: Air conditioning a small
area within a room. (does not cool entire room) i.e. work station.
|
| Coil: |
The appearance and function of an air conditioning coil is very
similar to the radiator in your automobile. In most air to air air
conditioning systems there are two coils. An evaporator coil and
a condenser coil. The coils in FREECOM® air conditioning
products are engineered for maximum efficiency using special proprietary
Ripple Finned Copper Tube with Louver Fin design.
|
| Evaporator
(indoor unit): |
Refrigerant from the condenser is circulated through tubes inside
the evaporator. A fan circulates indoor air through the evaporator's
coil. As the air passes through the coil, heat is removed from the
air by the refrigerant. The "heated" refrigerant is circulated back
to the condenser.
|
| Condenser
(outdoor unit): |
Refrigerant from the evaporator is circulated in tubes inside the
condenser's coil. A fan circulates outdoor air through the condenser
coil and "removes" heat from the refrigerant. The refrigerant is
then circulated back to the evaporator. The circulation of refrigerant
is a continuous cycle from and to the condenser and evaporator coils.
|
| Refrigerant: |
A special chemical manufactured primarily for use in air conditioning
and refrigeration systems. Used as a vehicle or medium to "collect"
and transfer heat.
|
| Compressor: |
A motor device used primarily in air conditioning and refrigeration
systems to circulate or "pump" refrigerant. FREECOM®
products are manufactured with world renowned Matsushita brand energy
efficient rotary compressors. Matsushita compressors are the most
reliable compressors available worldwide.
|
| Fan Motors: |
Fan motors are used to circulate air across and through the evaporator
and condenser coil. The most efficient and reliable products utilize
a designated fan motor for the evaporator and condenser. FREECOM®
models RCS-M2000T and RCS-S3000T utilize designated (dual) fan motors.
|
| Condensation: |
An air conditioner not only removes heat but also removes or condenses
humidity or water molecules from the air. This water is commonly
referred to as condensation. This function is commonly referred
to as dehumidification.
|
| BTU: |
British Thermal Unit: Measurement used to determine cooling capacity
of an air conditioner. The number of BTU's you will require to air
condition a specific area or space is based upon the amount of heat
(cooling load) that has to be removed from the area that you want
to air condition. To calculate cooling load a number of factors
must be considered. Such as geographic location, building type,
exposure to sunlight, number of windows, number of persons occupying
the space and appliances/equipment located in the space.
If the air conditioner that you purchase has insufficient BTU capacity
(under sized), the unit will operate continuously and cooling will
be ineffective. If the air conditioner has excessive BTU capacity
(over sized), the unit will short-cycle and not remove the humidity
resulting in a clammy ambient.
To select a properly sized (capacity) air conditioner for your
application, we recommend that you consult with an air conditioning
trade professional or reputable dealer.
|
| EER Energy Efficiency
Rating: |
A formula to determine energy consumption or efficiency of an air
conditioner. The higher the EER the more energy efficient the product.
To calculate basic EER divide the cooling capacity by the watts
input. Example: The cooling capacity of the FREECOM®
model RCS-M2000T is 8000BTU and the watt input is 800. 8000BTU divided
by 800 watts = 10 EER
|
| PC (Electronic)
Circuitry: |
Printed Circuitry is found in all modern appliances. PC circuitry
has been the major contributing factor in reducing the physical
size and weight of appliances and has substantially increased long
term reliability and efficiency. PC technology has replaced and
surpassed obsolete mechanical devices such as unattractive knobs,
dials and noisy relays.
All FREECOM® products utilize state of the art PC
technology and circuitry.
|
| Thermostat: |
A thermostat is a device that measures ambient air temperatures
and regulates the operation of the air conditioner. Better products
are designed with adjustable thermostats. A thermostat will maintain
a desired, constant room air temperature. FREECOM®
models RCS-M2000T and RCS-S3000T are equipped with internal, PC
technology soft touch adjustable thermostats.
|
| Electrical
requirements: |
Basic electrical requirements are measured in voltage and amperage.
Voltage: The standard household outlet voltage is 110 volt and is
suitable for all FREECOM® products. Note; Central
or ductless mini split systems may require installation of a designated
220 volt electrical system. Amperage (amps): Is the electrical "capacity"
of a device. The average household outlet has a capacity rating
of 15 - 20 amps. Assuming that no other appliance is sharing an
outlet, this standard capacity is usually sufficient for a FREECOM®
portable air conditioner.
|
| Air to air
design: |
Ambient or outdoor air is used as the medium to remove/reject heat
and is circulated over both the evaporator and condenser coils.
Buyer beware! If a portable air conditioner is not an air-to air
design it may require that you add water or is depended upon condensation
to maintain higher cooling capacities. Without water, products of
this type will experience a decrease in cooling capacity of 30%
or more.
Caution is also recommended for products that exhaust condensation
water through the air hose. A kinked or broken hose could result
in flooding or water damage to your home/office.
